As more people become aware of the impacts of gardening and landscaping, there are growing concerns about issues such as pesticides, the declining bee population, soil erosion, and climate change. Our clients are looking for insights. Why are permeable pavers better than concrete? How is it possible to create more favourable conditions for pollinators and local wildlife? Greater attention is being paid when investing in products like soil, mulch, and compost. People increasingly want products that are made organically and harvested sustainably—for example, organic soils and mulches.

Parents want children to see and understand how food grows, and to take joy in engaging with nature and the planet. More clients are requesting raised beds or container gardens with vertical trellises to grow high-value crops like herbs, tomatoes, and leafy greens, for stunning pot-to-plate gardens that are unique and meaningful.
Colour and Joy
While pale palettes have dominated gardens for years, right now what people want is bright, cheerful colour. Drab global news and events have fed a desire for more joy in our lives and in our gardens. Clients are gravitating to bold, brightly coloured flowers. In terms of specific plants that seem to be growing in popularity, we highlight climate-adapted species such as purple Rhododendron, chartreuse Hosta, flaming Azalea Japonica, and pink Dogwood that can beautifully accentuate the landscape with vibrant bursts of colour.
